Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, expressed her delight at receiving a huge bunch of flowers as she arrived for the signing of her new children’s book in Buckinghamshire.
The Duchess of York, 64, was handed a bright yellow and cream rose bouquet by a young girl as she arrived at Gerrards Cross bookshop.
Dressed in an emerald green blazer and black knee-length dress, Fergie held out her hands to receive the bunch of flowers sweetly given to her.
The Duchess was signing copies of her new children’s picture book, which is titled ‘Flora and Fern: Wonder in the Woods’ at the bookshop this morning, much to the delight of fans.
The description of the plot reads: “Flora and Fern are getting ready for their FESTIVE party. But when they head out into the snow to gather everything for the occasion, things don’t go according to plan.
“Will they still be able to have their woodland friends over and celebrate? A magical story with favourites Flora & Fern as they discover the true meaning of wonder and friendship.”
The Duchess is a Sunday Times and New York Times best-selling author, who has published multiple books over the years. She was pictured talking to youngsters about reading, and signing copies in the bookshop.
Her previous works include ‘Budgie the Little Helicopter’ which was adapted into an animated series on US Primetime Fox, and ‘Tea for Ruby’ which debuted at the top of the New York Times bestseller list.
Speaking to the Mirror, Sarah revealed her thoughts on encouraging reading with future generations. She said: “It’s so important that we do everything we can to enthuse the next generation about reading.”
“It makes me so sad to know that one in 12 children don’t have a single book at home and 30 percent of five-year-olds are not reading to the expected levels.”
Speaking about her work with the Children’s Literacy Charity as their patron, the Duchess added: “That’s why I work with the Children’s Literacy Charity as patron. They provide specially-trained literacy tutors to work with the most disadvantaged children in society to help them close their literacy gap.”
Flora and Fern: Wonder in the Woods is a festive tale with illustrations by Denise Hughes and contains important message about the environment and sustainability to a young audience, aged three and above.
In an Instagram post about the book’s release, Fergie wrote: “It was my goal to give readers an important message about the power of community and being connected to the world around you, an ethos which I believe to be integral to a sustainable future.”
The post continued: “This is something that I strive to share with my children and grandchildren, and am so thrilled to bring to all of you in my new book. With lots of snow-filled fun, of course!”
As well as a positive message about community and sustainability, the book published by New Frontier Publishing also aims to reflect the Duchess’ commitment to children’s literacy and storytelling.
The royal, who has two daughters with her ex-husband, Prince Andrew, is continuing with her book press tour this week.
