Sarah Ferguson made her first Instagram post after her short break in Austria, following her second shock cancer diagnosis. The Duchess of York was diagnosed with skin cancer nearly three weeks ago.
The announcement on January 21 said that Sarah was diagnosed with malignant melanoma, an aggressive form of skin cancer, which was discovered during her treatment for breast cancer. Fergie, as she is known among family and friends, is now back in Windsor where she is surrounded by beloved family and friends.
Last week she shared a brief statement about the diagnosis, but yesterday she took to social media to discuss another issue.
Prince Andrew’s ex-wife posted a picture with seven rainbow headbands to celebrate LGBTQ+ History Month. The headbands featured multicoloured gems and were placed on top of a marble tabletop.
The royal thanked people of the LGBTQ+ community in healthcare and medicine.
She captioned her post: “Hurray, it’s LGBTQ+ History Month! I am wearing my rainbow headbands today. In honour of the 2024 theme #UnderTheScope.
“I want to say a big thank you to the incredible work of the LGBTQ+ people’s contribution to healthcare and medicine.
“Your hard work and leadership in this field, which comes with its own injustices and inequalities, is incredibly valuable and deserves the utmost appreciation.
“Thank you to all of the professionals, leaders, and aspiring leaders out there who are dedicating your lives to care and influencing change. [rainbow coloured heart emojis]”.
The hashtag #UnderTheScope is the 2024 theme for LGBT+ History Month which this year celebrates LGBT+ peoples’ contribution to the field of medicine and healthcare both historically and today across the NHS and in other healthcare settings.
In a previous post on the same platform, the duchess said: “I have been taking some time to myself as I have been diagnosed with malignant melanoma, a form of skin cancer, my second cancer diagnosis within a year after I was diagnosed with breast cancer this summer and underwent a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.
“It was thanks to the great vigilance of my dermatologist that the melanoma was detected when it was. Naturally, another cancer diagnosis has been a shock but I’m in good spirits and grateful for the many messages of love and support.”
