Today, Americans celebrate Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday of November each year.

Several royal families across the globe count Americans amongst their members, and as such, it’s possible these royals may bring their American holiday tradition to their adopted country. Others have relocated to the United States and may mark the celebration Stateside. So, which royals may be celebrating Thanksgiving today?

Princess Madeleine of Sweden is married to American-British Chris O’Neill, and they reside in Florida with their three children, Princess Leonore, Prince Nicolas and Princess Adrienne. The Swedish royals are known to celebrate Thanksgiving, and Princess Madeleine shared a photo on Instagram of her children on the holiday in 2022.

The family is due to move back to Sweden in 2024, so the entire Swedish Royal Family may get to partake in the festivities in November 2024.

Crown Prince Pavlos (the head of the Greek Royal Family) and his American-British wife, Crown Princess Marie-Chantal, reside in New York City. The family is known to mark Thanksgiving each year, with the Crown Princess even revealing on her blog how her family celebrates the day. Marie-Chantal has also shared photos from their family event over the years.

Royals in Monaco will also be celebrating the holiday. Prince Albert and Princess Charlene will celebrate Thanksgiving with their twins, Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques. Albert’s mother, Princess Grace, was American and introduced the holiday to her children, and Albert has carried on the tradition. Albert was an American citizen until he became an adult; he renounced his American citizenship then.

Luxembourg’s Prince Robert may also celebrate the holiday as both his mother (the former Princess Joan) and his wife, Princess Julie, are Americans. While Robert and his family reside in Europe, his American ties run deep, so a trip across the pond to celebrate or a celebration of Thanksgiving in Europe may be on the cards.

Of course, another obvious set of royals celebrating Thanksgiving are the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who reside in California with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Meghan is a California native and has openly talked about marking the holiday in America and her love of cooking traditional American Thanksgiving dishes.

Whether celebrating at home or abroad, Royal Central wishes all Americans a Happy Thanksgiving!
