The Royal Family has taken to social media ahead of England’s semi-final Euro Cup match against the Netherlands.
On X, the Royal Family has shared a video of the Band of the Grenadier Guards playing “Three Lions/ Football’s Coming Home” outside Buckingham Palace on Wednesday morning with the caption “Wishing the best of luck to England in tonight’s game!”. This comes ahead of England’s Wednesday evening game against the Netherlands.
The song, which has been to number 1 several times for Frank Skinner, David Baddiel and the Lightening Seeds is an unofficial anthem for the England football team.
The tournament has drawn royal support from across Europe, with the Belgian Royal Family, the Danish Royal Family, and the Spanish Royal Family have all attended Euros matches.
The Prince of Wales has attended several Euros matches this year, including England’s 20 June match against Denmark and their 6 July match against Switzerland.
As President of the Football Association, he has met with the team several times before and during the tournament to share his good wishes but will most likely not be attending Wednesday’s match as he returned to England earlier in the week for engagements.
And the final could be a royal affair, too. Spain is already assured of a tilt at the trophy and Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia have already shown themselves to be big football fans, attending previous big games including the World Cup final which saw their country’s women claim the sport’s ultimate prize.
