Lord George Carey recounts his conversation with the monarch in the five-part series adding: “But she would never go anyway.”

Lord Carey tells the final episode: “I remember going to see the Queen to hand in my resignation and said ‘your Majesty, the time has come’.
“She looked at me and more or less said, ‘You people come and go, I can’t resign — I’ve got to keep going’.
“And I said, ‘Well, the Lord tells me at the age of 70 I’ve got to go’. But she would never go anyway.”
Lord Carey served as Archbishop of Canterbury from 1991 to 2002, and led the prayers for Diana, Princess of Wales at her funeral in 1997.
He also tells how Queen Consort Camilla talked of the earliest days of her relationship with the King during a secret meeting.
KING Charles has apologised to his mother’s lady-in-waiting for his trim Coronation list.
Lady Pamela Hicks, 94, was not invited to the event, which will welcome 2,000 guests.
In contrast, 8,000 attended the Queen’s crowning in 1953.
But Lady Pamela’s daughter India Hicks, 55, said her mum was impressed by Charles’ slimmed-down list.
She said: “My mother was not offended at all. ‘How very, very sensible’, she said.”
