The Royal Watcher - Prince Ricardo De La Cerda
Today marks the Anniversary of the Death of Queen Mary, who passed away on this day in 1953! The Teck Princess who lived through the reigns of six monarchs and was the Queen Consort for twenty-five years, as well as a Queen Mother to two Kings and the Queen Grandmother to Queen Elizabeth II, Queen Mary assembled much of the British Royal Family’s massive Jewellery Collection, so we are featuring Turquoise and Diamond Brooch today!

Princess May of Teck received Seven Tiaras, Fifteen Necklaces, Twenty-Six Bracelets, and Forty-Four Brooches among the 130 spectacular pieces of Jewellery given by Family, Friends, Cities, Institutions and Counties from various parts of the United Kingdom and the British Empire when she married her late fiancé’s brother, the future King George V, in the Chapel Royal of St. James’s Palace. From her parents-in-law, the future King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, Princess May received this cluster brooch of diamonds with turquoise centre, which was discovered through the collaboration of Franck and Beth.
Queen Mary was most notably photographed wearing the Turquoise Brooch for a Gala Performance during the Danish Royal Family’s Visit to London in 1948, when the Brooch had the Cullinan VI Diamond as a Pendant.
Queen Mary’s Turquoise Brooch remained publicly unworn until it appeared on the late Queen in 2014, and soon entered her regular rotation, being worn for the 90th Birthday Celebration at Windsor Castle among a host of other occasions.
The Queen continued to wear Queen Mary’s Turquoise Brooch into the last years of her life, most notably for her Address to the World during the Covid Pandemic, and also for the Royal Windsor Horse Show in 2021.
Queen Camilla debuted Queen Mary’s Turquoise Brooch for Day 2 of Royal Ascot at the Ascot Racecourse, and there is no doubt we will continue to see it for years to come!
Full credit to Franck and Beth for their years of discovery about this Brooch!
