Prince Ricardo De La Cerda
Infanta Sofia of Spain has been praised for her ”vibrant spirit” as she graduated from secondary education.
The second in line to the Spanish throne received her International Baccalaureate at a ceremony at UWC Atlantic College in south Wales as her two years there came to an end.
Sofia, who turned 18 last month, was presented with her certificate as her tutors said she had gone ”from being an empathetic and affectionate listener by nature to being an accredited “support partner” during her time at the college.
Her proud parents, King Felipe and Queen Letizia, were on hand to celebrate with her and hear praise for the ”warmth and vibrant spirit” of their younger daughter.
However, the family had to send photos of the special event to Sofia’s older sister, Princess Leonor, as she is still at sea completing naval training. Leonor was ready to celebrate, recording a special video message for her sister.
The Spanish royal family has already said that Sofia won’t be following her sister into the military.
Princess Leonor joined the army just months after her own graduation from UWC Atlantic College in 2023.
Infanta Sofia is the latest in a steady line of young royals who have been educated from a UWC college. It’s become so popular with this generation of royals that it’s been dubbed ‘princess school’.
On the same day that Sofia graduated in Wales, Princess Ariane of the Netherlands completed her time with UWC in Italy where her parents, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima, watched their youngest child receive her Baccalaureate.
Princess Elisabeth, heir to the Belgian throne, began the trend when she attended UWC Atlantic College. She is now at Harvard but is waiting to hear whether US President Donald Trump’s decision to stop the university enrolling international students will impact her continuing her course.
