Queen Letizia chose an historic set of jewels for the first big event in Spain’s royal year and an event that was also very personal for her.

Along with King Felipe and Princess Leonor, Queen Letizia attended the Pascua Militar, the solemn event held every January 6th, in Madrid. It has historic roots as the first was held by King Carlos III of Spain to mark Spanish troops driving British soldiers out of Menorca. And in 2025, it also marked Princess Leonor’s last public engagement before a five month stint at sea as part of her own military training.

Queen Letizia paired a personal pair of earrings with a piece from a historic collection for the event.

The Queen of Spain wore a burgundy sweater tucked into a maxi skirt in the same shade for the winter event. To beat the chill, she finished her look with a black jacket that she wore in Italy in December.

However, it was not Her Majesty’s fashion that grabbed attention but rather the pearls that she wore. She chose a necklace from the joyas de pasar. This collection of jewels dates back a century, collected by Queen Victoria Eugenie. They are only worn by the current Queen of Spain.

Queen Letizia wore a necklace that was created in 1846, made of 37 large pearls. The necklace notably has a diamond clasp, though Letizia wore the clasp at the back for the Pascua Militar.

She also wore a pair of earrings from her own collection; they feature a large pearl drop, a diamond chain, and a round diamond stud.
