King Charles has been advised not to attend the COP conference in Azerbaijan, which will begin just after King Charles and Queen Camilla’s visit to Australia and Samoa.
The reason behind the King no longer attending is so he has time to rest and recover after his Oceania tour which will end on October 26, around two weeks before COP29 begins.
A friend of Their Majesties has shared how the Queen feels regarding the cancellation of the Azerbaijan trip.
They told the Daily Beast: “Camilla will be pleased he is not going straight off to Azerbaijan. She didn’t particularly want him to go to Australia, and she will be encouraging him to take it easy once he gets back.”
Official sources at the Palace have shared that the King will not be attending COP29 this year due to the fact he will have recently got back from a long-haul trip to Australia and Samoa.
The King, who has been diagnosed with cancer, will have his treatment stopped during the 11-day tour and continue as soon as he returns back to the UK. The tour will also not include a stop in New Zealand due to the advice of his doctors.
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said: “While it was previously hoped that the King would visit the island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, his doctors advised that an extended programme should be avoided to prioritise continued recovery.”
They added: “In close consultation with the Australian and New Zealand prime ministers, and with due regard for pressures of time and logistics, it has therefore been agreed to limit to Samoa and Australia only.”
