The Queen will stand in to cover for The King at major royal engagements in the coming weeks as His Majesty receives treatment for cancer.

It is understood that Queen Camilla will represent her husband at some of the royal calendar’s most important events, including the Commonwealth Day Service and Maundy Thursday.

The 75-year-old monarch is continuing to undertake state business and official paperwork, however, on the advice of doctors he has temporarily paused all public facing events.

The 76-year-old Queen is understood to be representing The King at the Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey in March, where she will be joined by a number of senior royals.

It has yet to be decided who will deliver His Majesty’s Commonwealth message at the service, the Prince of Wales being a possibility.

The King and Queen were expected to visit Canada in May, as well as Australia, New Zealand and Samoa later in the year.

No information has been made available as to whether these tours will go ahead, with no date suggested for The King’s return to public engagements.
