Queen Camilla has revealed a popular children’s story “frightened” her as a young child.

Speaking on her new ground-breaking podcast, The Queen’s Reading Room, Camilla says the Alice in Wonderland stories scared her when she was little. She admitted it was some of the characters that frightened her.

Camilla said the thought of Alice going down the rabithole also made her feel fearful. She was then quizzed on whether she prefered Lewis Carol or Hans Christian Anderson – the author of The Little Mermaid and The Ugly Duckling.

She replied: “It’s an awful thing to admit, but I’ve never really liked Lewis Carroll. I was rather, sort of, put off by Alice going down that rabbit hole.

“It always rather frightened me as a child… all the Mad Hatters and the Red Queens. It just wasn’t my favourite.”

According to the MailOnline, the Queen’s podcast is a royal first. In it she aims to promote the joys of reading.

It will feature actors, authors and personalities as they discuss their favourite stories. Camilla herself is an avid reader and wants to promote books and improve literacy.
