Queen Camilla puts spotlight on literature on visit to school in Chelsea

The Queen spent Wednesday celebrating the joy of literature with school children and learning how they are encouraged to read.

Queen Camilla visited Christ Church school in Chelsea to meet with pupils and learn more about their month-long festival celebrating reading and books. She toured the school with teachers and was able to see first hand all of the different ways that the children are being encouraged to read and explore books.

Queen Camilla shared just how important reading is and what it can do, saying: ”Each one of you has the potential to be a star… Books are magical portals that can transport you to different worlds, introduce you to new ideas, and help you understand the world around you. By reading, you are opening doors to endless possibilities and opportunities.”

She also donated several books to the school to be added to its library.

Reading and literature are incredibly important to The Queen, and she supports several different initiatives to encourage reading and community at all ages. In 2021, she launched The Queen’s Reading Room (then known as The Duchess of Cornwall’s Reading Room), an online book club started to bring people together through literature. The Queen’s Reading Room Festival was held for the second year at Hampton Court Palace earlier in June.

Queen Camilla did not only discuss reading with pupils, though. They also showed her a mosaic that they designed and created in honour of King Charles’s May 2023 Coronation.
