Queen Camilla presents the Ascot trophy named after the royal whose crown she wore at the Coronation – Royal Central

Their names are both written in the history books as queen consorts and their Coronations involved the same crown so it’s fitting that Queen Camilla has presented the main prize on the second day of Royal Ascot, named after a woman with whom she has many links, Queen Mary.

Her Majesty handed over the historic gilt trophy to winners in a sunny ceremony soon after the race ended.

Victory this year was claimed by Crimson Advocate, ridden by John R. Velazquez and trained by George Weaver.

The Queen Mary Stakes is the main race on day two of Royal Ascot. It was established in 1921 and named in honour of the then queen consort. The first race was won by a horse called Wild Mint.

Queen Camilla and King Charles led the royal procession at Ascot for the second day. They have been joined at the famous meeting by the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh who also took part in the carriage procession. Zara and Mike Tindall rode in the third carriage on day two.

Already in the Royal Enclosure was the Princess Royal while Prince and Princess Michael of Kent are also attending.

Queen Camilla was crowned with Queen Mary’s Crown at the Coronation on May 6th.
