Queen Camilla is taking a break and the reason may be pretty simple, says expert

Queen Camilla has decided to take a week off from her royal duties, which may seem like bad timing, with King Charles battling cancer, but, a royal expert chimes in, saying, she “does regularly go on holiday this time of year” and it may be a matter of just sticking to routine 

In the latest episode of The Royal Report, host Jack Royston talked about Camilla taking a break, saying, “So, part of it, may be, the royals are creatures of habit, they do have a routine, they do have a calendar.”

He adds: “And their calendar is very important to them, and it may just be, that for Charles and Camilla, there’s no reason to interrupt the normal run of business.”

“She’d like to take some time off, because she is going to have some tough days ahead of her.”

King Charles is currently underdoing cancer treatment, travelling to London once a week, and recuperating at Sandringham House, but at the same time, he is sticking to routine, as much as he can, and staying seen, which one royal historian says is helpful in cutting down on public concern.  

Carolyn Harris, a professor at the University of Toronto, recently spoke to CBC News, saying, “King Charles has been careful to make enough public appearances to counteract the more pessimistic speculation about his health on social media.”

With Charles taking a break from public-facing duties, Camilla is the most senior working royal, which may put a lot of pressure on her, suggests Professor Harris. 

She says: “Now that Camilla is queen and there are fewer working members of the Royal Family, however, there is a greater expectation from the press and public that she place her royal duties and public life first above personal considerations.”

One might say, taking a week off, is putting the monarchy first, because she is resting up, as Mr Royston suggests.
