Queen Camilla has called for the teaching of respect in schools as she spoke passionately about the need to bring an end to domestic abuse.

Her Majesty made her comments as she visited a women’s refuge in Swindon and marked half a century of Swindon Domestic Abuse Support Service.

The Queen was shown facilities at the refuge whose location has been kept secret to protect those it supports.

And while there, Her Majesty said she had noticed how wide ranging its work is.

Queen Camilla said ‘’you’re doing such a wonderful job in so many walks of life. You seem to be getting into everywhere, which is what is needed. It’s not just looking after victims, and the children. It’s getting into schools and teaching young people, teaching them respect.’’

And as the service marked 50 years, Her Majesty expressed her hope that in the coming five decades ‘’we might be able to end this horrific abuse.’’

During her visit, The Queen met staff and volunteers as well as police and council officials who work alongside those at the shelter and at the service.

There was also lots of time to speak to women and children being supported by the service. The refuge has 20 flats for families as well as 2 emergency sets of accommodation to help women and children out of abusive situations.

The Queen’s day in Swindon also saw her tour local businesses and during a walkabout she was asked about The King who is preparing for hospital treatment for an enlarged prostate.

Queen Camilla told wellwishers that His Majesty is ‘’fine’’ and expressed her thanks for their interest in his health.

The King will undergo inpatient medical treatment in the coming days.
