Queen Camilla gave a moving and heartfelt keynote address at a Commonwealth event in Samoa on Thursday highlighting the importance of working to end abuse against girls and women.

The Queen has focused much of her energy as both Queen and Duchess of Cornwall towards supporting organisations working to end gender-based violence. She has also focused on this teme during her visits to Australia and Samoa.

She was invited to make a speech at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa, where she spoke in Samoan when referencing a proverb: “I was delighted recently to come across the wonderful Samoan prover: E au le Inailau a Tama’ita’i. With apologies to the men in the room, I thought that we might make this our motto today.”

Throughout the speech, Queen Camilla discussed that this abuse is preventable. Her Majesty also stressed that this goal needs to be a priority for everyone across the Commonwealth and that it is still a major issue that needs our attention.

“We know that abuse can be prevented and ultimately eliminated, but only if we work together until that task is completed. That is our commitment – to each other, to the Commonwealth and to the generations to come.“
