The Queen has chosen all white for a very special wedding anniversary.
As Queen Camilla and King Charles landed in Italy for their State Visit, Buckingham Palace shared new portraits to mark twenty years since the couple married.
In the snaps, Queen Camilla is seen in a sparkling white coat dress and wearing a poignant piece of jewellery.
For these special photos, The Queen has chosen a brooch created to resemble lily of the valley which once belonged to Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother.
The bloom is closely associated with weddings and, in the language of flowers so beloved of Queen Victoria, it denotes a ”return to happiness’.
The portraits were taken by Chris Getty soon after Their Majesties touched down in Rome where they are about to begin a State Visit.
The three day visit will see them in Ravenna as well as the Eternal City.
Their time in Italy will also include their twentieth wedding anniversary which falls on April 9 2005.
There is a special significance to them being in Rome – they were intending to wed on April 8 2005 but had to put their marriage back by one day when Charles, then Prince of Wales, had to attend the funeral of Pope John Paul II in the Vatican, inside the walls of Rome, on the morning he was meant to wed.
The photos were accompanied by a message from Their Majesties which read ”as we begin our first visit to Italy as King and Queen, we are so looking forward to celebrating our twentieth wedding anniversary in such a special place – and with such wonderful people! A presto, Roma e Ravenna!”
It was signed ‘Charles R’ and ‘Camilla R’.
