Happy Birthday to Queen Azizah of Pahang, the Tengku Ampuan of Pahang, who turns 64 today! The beloved Johor Princess who became the inspirational Tengku Ampuan of Pahang and served as the XVI Raja Permaisuri Agong (Queen) of Malaysia, Queen Azizah, who we met in London last year, has a splendid jewellery collection, which includes this spectacular Diamond Fringe Necklace!

The magnificent Diamond Necklace is composed of fringes of pear-shaped and marquise cut diamonds which can look different depending on how tightly the necklace is worn around the neck. The Necklace was a gift to Queen Azizah from Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Al Ketbi, the mother of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi, possibly given during a visit to Abu Dhabi in February 2023.
Queen Azizah debuted this striking modern Diamond Fringe Necklace at the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Westminster Abbey in May 2023, making a glittering statement in her traditional outfit among the other Royals and Heads of State.
When discussing the dismissal Coronation dress code in the weeks leading up to the big day, I really tried to convince Queen Azizah to wear a Diamond Necklace, because ‘Queen Máxima would be wearing the House Diamond Earrings” and she would not look overdressed among the other Queens.
When I met Queen Azizah at the Malaysian High Commission a few days after the Coronation, she told us about going up to Queen Maxima and relaying my words:
I told Máxima that ‘The Royal Watcher told me to wear this Necklace because he said you would be wearing your big diamonds’
Then Queen Máxima pulled her hair behind her ears [to show the massive House Diamond Earrings] and said: ‘Look! He was right!’
Earlier this year, Queen Azizah wore the Diamond Necklace for a Farewell Banquet hosted by the Malaysian Defence Forces in Kuala Lumpur, ahead of the end of the King’s Tenure as the XVI Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King of Malaysia).
A few days later, Queen Azizah wore the Diamond Necklace again, at the Wedding of Prince ‘Abdul Mateen of Brunei and Anisha Rosnah binti Adam at the Istana Nurul Iman in Bandar Seri Begawan.
With the Weddings of two of Queen Azizah’s children coming up in the next few weeks, there is no doubt we will see this Diamond Necklace worn again soon!
