Princess Michael of Kent has stepped in for her daughter-in-law, Lady Frederick Windsor, to judge the World Chelsea Bun Awards.

Lady Frederick, better known as Sophie Winkleman, was due to be a judge at the the 5th annual awards ceremony hosted by Partridges which celebrates the currant buns.

However, Sophie has become “unavoidably not available” according to a spokesperson, with Princess Michael taking her place.

Sophie is married to Lord Frederick Windsor, the second cousin of King Charles III and the son of Prince & Princess Michael.

She is a highly successful actress, and is currently in Edinburgh filming for Julian Fellowes’s 19th-century period drama, Belgravia.

Princess Michael will arrive at Partridges flagship store in Duke of York Square, Chelsea at 9am to help select the three winners in the ‘Live Tasting’ competition of the World Chelsea Bun Awards 2023.

Chelsea buns are a type of currant bun traditionally made from a rich yeast dough flavoured with lemon peel, cinnamon or mixed spice.

Princess Michael and her fellow judges will decide the winner based on how appetising they look, the originality/creativity of the recipe and the presentation/plating.
