The Japanese Imperial Family hosted Princess Margaret and the Earl of Snowdon on their visit to Japanon this day in 1969, 55 years ago, to open the Great Britain Fair during ‘British Week’ in Tokyo.
Princess Margaret and the Earl of Snowdon were welcomed by Princess Setsuko of Chichibu on arrival at Haneda Airport.
Princess Margaret (wearing the Teck Diamond Hoop Necklace and her Emerald Earrings) and Lord Snowdon attended a Reception a day before the Great Britain Fair in Tokyo, alongside Prince William of Gloucester.
The following day, Emperor Hiroihto and Empress Nagako has an Audience with Princess Margaret and the Earl of Snowdon at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.
The Princess and Lord Snowdon then visited the Great Britain Fair at the Nippon Budokan.
That evening, Princess Margaret (in her Emerald Earrings) and the Earl of Snowdon attended a Dinner hosted by Prime Minister Eisaku Sato at the Prime Minister’s Residence.
The Princess and Lord Snowdon also visited Nijo Castle and the William Shakespeare Exhibition at Keio Department Store in Tokyo.
Princess Hanako of Hitachi joined Princess Margaret (in her Sapphire Earrings) and the Earl of Snowdon for a fashion show marking the Great Britain Fair at the Toranomon Hall.
Finally, Princess Margaret and the Earl of Snowdon met with Crown Prince Akihito, Crown Princess Michiko, Prince Naruhito and Prince Fumihito at the Togu Palace.
