Royal | News - Prince Ricardo De La Cerda
Most people might opt for a coffee or hot tea in the morning, but not Princess Kate. The Princess of Wales has a go-to breakfast drink that boasts several benefits.
The mum-of-three, 42, reportedly opts for a ‘green juice’ which contains seven ‘powerhouse’ ingredients.
According to Hello!, the Royal’s go-to beverage contains kale, spinach, romaine lettuce, blueberries, spirulina powder, matcha powder (small teaspoon) and coriander.
It certainly sounds very healthy, but what benefits does the drink actually provide? Helen Bell, a nutritionist at Help & Advice, offered her thoughts on the beverage.
“In my experience, the term ‘superfood’ is often thrown around, but it generally refers to foods that are nutrient-rich and beneficial for health and wellbeing,” Helen said. “In Kate’’s smoothie, several ingredients could be considered superfoods.
“For instance, kale, spinach, and spirulina are packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Blueberries are another example, known for their high antioxidant content.
“Matcha, a type of green tea, is known for its concentration of catechins, which are natural antioxidants.”
Helen shared that by adding certain superfoods to your diet, you could see a positive impact on your cholesterol levels. Leafy greens, like kale and spinach, are especially praised for their ability to slash ‘bad cholesterol (LDL) levels’.
Helen also pointed out that kale, spinach, and romaine lettuce help boost your vitamin intake, particularly vitamins A, C, and K, which are important for immune function as well as skin and bone health.
But it’s not without its caveats – Helen warned that despite the benefits, there might be drawbacks to guzzling green juice.
She clarified: “While the ingredients in the smoothie are generally beneficial, it’s important to be mindful of individual dietary needs. For example, those with thyroid issues might need to moderate their intake of raw kale and spinach due to their goitrogen content.”
