Princess Kate called on courage when delivering the unexpected news of her cancer diagnosis, which is difficult to go through and to discuss, says royal expert and commentator Rafe Heydel-Mankoo.
Daily Express US spoke to Mr Heydel-Mankoo, who hailed the princess for talking about her health challenges publicly, saying, “I thought she spoke magnificently. Courageous about her own condition but caring in offering hope to those suffering with cancer.”
He commends her for speaking “so personally and open,” saying “the monarchy is a human institution” and Kate releasing the video message helps “connect us to the institution in a deeply personal and visceral way.”
“We are all invested in it because we can all relate to it.”

Kate made the decision to discuss her personal wellbeing with the public by sharing a video message, saying she had abdominal surgery at the start of January, which was successful, but post-operation tests revealed she had cancer.
She is now undergoing “preventative chemotherapy,” which in medical terms, is referred to as “adjuvant chemotherapy,.” The treatment works to rid the body of cancer cells, following surgery, and reduce the chance of the cancer returning.
The treatment can be administered in more than one way, including injections or in pill form. Depending on the type of cancer, the treatment can last three to six to nine months.

Kate went over the timeline of her health issues in the video message, that she had to first have surgery and recover from the procedure, before being able to start the preventative chemotherapy treatment.
“She has had to go into greater detail than perhaps she might otherwise have done,” says Heydel-Mankoo, referring to the online conspiracy theories as to why Kate has gone unseen.
He adds: “We must give her space and privacy. She is first and foremost a patient and a mother.”
“So whilst undergoing treatment, HRH will not be out in public for the weeks to come. We may see HRH occasionally but only when her medical team deem it fit.”
