Princess Anne steps in for her brother, King Charles

While the King was at a military engagement in the English Channel as he visited HMS Prince of Wales before its departure, the Princess Royal was holding down the fort for her older brother in Scotland.

Princess Anne hosted an investiture ceremony on behalf of King Charles at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh. The Monarch typically leads the ceremony; however, the Princess Royal or the Prince of Wales can take his place.

Her Royal Highness presented honours to over fifty recipients. While investitures are usually held at Windsor Castle or Buckingham Palace, Scottish recipients will often receive their honours at Holyrood.

The Princess Royal presented both OBE, Office of the Order of the British Empire, and MBE, Member of the Order of the British Empire, at the palace.

British Paralympian Nathan Macqueen who won a gold medal for Great Britain in archery received his MBE from Princess Anne and shared how meaningful it was to receive his honour, saying “It felt really, really special. I didn’t ever think I would get an MBE, so to come here and bring my granny is just amazing.”

Scottish golfer Sandy Lyle also received an honour for his services to golf when the Princess Royal awarded him an OBE.
