Princess Anne in hospital with concussion

The Princess Royal is being treated for concussion and minor injuries after an accident at her home in Gloucestershire.

The Princess, who is 73, was taken to hospital in Bristol on Sunday evening after an incident at Gatcombe Park.

Her Royal Highness has concussion and minor injuries to her head. She is said to be recovering well but will remain in hospital for a few more days for observation.

It’s not known exactly what happened but doctors say her injuries are consistent with a potential impact from a horse’s head or legs.

Princess Anne was walking within the perimeters of Gatcombe Park when the incident occurred. An ambulance was sent to her home and she was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.

Her husband, Sir Tim Laurence, accompanied her to Southmead Hospital where she is still being treated. It is understood Her Royal Highness will remain there unless her medical team advise otherwise.

Princess Anne’s two children, Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall, were also on the Gatcombe estate at the time.

The King and Queen as well as the Prince of Wales were immediately informed of the accident.

Buckingham Palace issued a statement, noting that ”The King has been kept closely informed and joins the whole Royal Family in sending his fondest love and well-wishes to The Princess for a speedy recovery.”

The busy diary of the Princess Royal has been cancelled for at least a week and her planned trip to Canada at the end of the week is also now postponed.

Buckingham Palace has also confirmed that the Princess Royal won’t play a part in the State Visit of the Emperor and Empress of Japan, set to get under way on June 25th 2024.
