Princess Anne heads to Paris for first trip abroad since accident

The Princess Royal has carried out her first public engagement overseas since the accident that left her in hospital for five days.

Princess Anne is now in Paris where she has already attended a meeting of the International Olympic Committee.

The Princess, 73, took part in the 142nd session of the IOC where a wide range of issues relating to the games is under discussion. The Summer Olympics start in just three days time.

Among the issues being talked about is the impact of AI on sport and the staging of future opening ceremonies – the spectacle in Paris has already attracted some controversy as part of it will be staged on the Seine which has led to security and access issues for local residents and visitors.

Princess Anne has been a member of the IOC since 1988.

This is her first visit overseas since being treated in hospital for concussion. She was found with minor head injuries at her Gatcombe Park estate at the end of June and spent five nights at Southmead Hospital in Bristol before being allowed to continue her recovery at home.

The Princess returned to engagements in early July. Her first public appearance was at a ceremony for Riding for the Disabled, one of the charities closest to her heart.

Other royal members of the IOC were also in attendance at the session. Prince Albert II of Monaco was present as was Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg who was accompanied by his wife, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa.
