The Princess Royal has been appointed Senior Colonel of the Household Division by King Charles III.
Princess Anne, who is Colonel of the Household Cavalry’s Blues and Royals, was awarded the prestigious military role by her elder brother when he became Colonel in Chief of the Household Division’s regiments.
This likely occurred some months ago shortly after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, with the new role only coming to public knowledge now following a visit by the princess to Wellington Barracks.
In her role as Senior Colonel, the 72-year-old royal visited the barracks to thank senior military personnel who had worked through the night rehearsing ahead of the Coronation.
As part of the new role, Princess Anne will host a traditional dinner for her fellow Household Division Colonels on the eve of the Trooping the Colour ceremony.
It is here where the Colonels decide who will present the Colour to the monarch the following year.
Anne is following in her late father’s footsteps, with Prince Philip holding the role of Senior Colonel for a number of years.
The Princess Royal will also play an important role in the Coronation Procession on Saturday. As Gold-Stick-in-Waiting, she is the person who the monarch has entrusted with his personal safety.
As Gold-Stick to to The King, Her Royal Highness will travel behind Their Majesties in the Coronation procession on horseback.
Anne will follow behind The King and Queen’s Gold State Coach, leading around 6,000 armed services personnel.
