Despite the relentless downpours, Prince William was the epitome of cheer at a Buckingham Palace garden party this week, charming guests and earning high praise for his affable nature.
A TikTok video shared by @theroyalwatcher2 captured William’s jovial interactions with attendees at the event he hosted on behalf of his father, King Charles III.
The caption over the footage stated: “Prince William hosts a garden party at Buckingham Palace along with his cousins”, naming princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, as well as Zara Tindall who was accompanied by her husband Mike Tindall.
Marking his support for King Charles, the Prince of Wales graced the summer event in traditional attire, donning a top hat and morning suit. And throughout the gathering, William was seen engaging warmly with guests, exchanging handshakes, and conversing animatedly, while The Tindalls were also busy mingling with the crowd.
Despite the dreary weather, many royals were spotted taking selfies with attendees, their smiles undiminished by the grey skies.
However, it was William’s gentle demeanour that garnered accolades in the TikTok video’s comments section, with one admirer remarking “just like his mother he’ll always make her proud”, alluding to the beloved Princess Diana. Another user concurred, simply adding: “Big time.”
Diana was well-known for her charity work and, according to Philanthropy Roundtable, “at the time of her death Princess Diana remained official patron of Royal Marsden NHS Trust (a cancer fund); Greater Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, London; the National AIDS Trust (an umbrella for a wide array of AIDS causes in the United Kingdom); The Leprosy Mission; the English National Ballet; and Centrepoint Soho (which provides services to homeless youth)”. Her son Prince William is certainly carrying on her charitable spirit.
At the garden party, Prince William mingled with individuals from several of his patronages, including Homewards, the homelessness initiative he unveiled last year. He also spent time with military personnel.
His light-hearted banter with Swim England members, another cause he champions, included a quip about this week’s weather being “good weather for swimming”.
