Prince Louis is likely to be excited for Christmas on Wednesday, which he is set to spend with his nearest and dearest.

The young prince, six, will accompany his siblings Prince George, 11, and Princess Charlotte, nine, along his parents Prince William and Princess Kate, to Sandringham to spend the big day with the rest of the Royal Family.

As well as receiving presents, something the six-year-old will no doubt be excited about, the youngster will also be treated to a festive breakfast at around 9am before heading to St Mary Magelene Church for the 11am Christmas Day special service.

When the family return, they will sit down for a hearty lunch, which will see the youngest royals dining separately.

This is a common tradition in the royal household according to ex royal chef Darren McGrady, who explained that royal children aren’t allowed to sit at the dinner table with the adults until “they have learned the art of polite conversation”.

Mr McGrady, who worked for the Royal Family between 1982 and 1998, said that the royal Christmas lunch tends to include a “salad with shrimp or lobster, and a roasted turkey, and all of your traditional side dishes like parsnips, carrots, Brussels sprouts and Christmas pudding with brandy butter for dessert”.

While the majority of the royals will be delighted at what’s on their plate, there could be some disappointment for Prince Louis as his favourite vegetable is unlikely to be on the menu.

According to Princess Kate, the young prince loves beetroot, something she revealed during a chat with Mary Berry years ago, however this is unlikely to be served on Christmas Day.

While talking about the family’s passion for growing their own food, the then-Duchess of Cambridge said: “We grow our own vegetables, we’ve got carrots, beans, beetroot’s a massive favourite, Louis absolutely loves beetroot.”
