Prince Harry has been accused of “playing to the victimhood narrative in America” in a move that has left the Royal Family “hesitant”.
On Tuesday, the Duke of Sussex arrived in London ahead of his appearance at an event later today at St Paul’s Cathedral to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.
Harry’s return to the UK raised hopes he would meet his father King Charles III, but a spokesperson for the prince said this hasn’t been possible due to His Majesty’s “full programme”.
The spokesperson added: “The Duke of course is understanding of his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon.”
Harry was last in the UK in February when he rushed back to see the King after the Monarch announced his cancer diagnosis.
Royal expert Kinsey Schofield believes King’s decision to decline the meeting will help play into Harry’s “victimhood narrative” in the US.
She told TalkTV: “I woke up today shocked that Prince Harry’s spokesperson told The Telegraph that Prince Harry would not be meeting with the King today. The King’s schedule was far too packed.
“I know that is going to play perfectly into Prince Harry’s victimhood narrative in America, which is exactly who he is trying to cater to right now.”
Schofield said the fact Harry’s team released details that the King turned down the meeting is “exactly why the Royal Family is hesitant to have any sort of engagement with him,” adding: “There are no secrets”.
