Prince Harry and Meghan Markle work just one hour a week at Archewell Foundation, a foundation set up by the couple in 2020 after they stepped back from their roles as senior working royals.
According to GB News, tax filings for the foundation revealed that the pair maintain a one-hour-per-week involvement in the operations of the organisation, which is reportedly standard practice for directors of US tax-exempt organisations.
This was started in a new report on the company, which also detailed what donations they had received and what grants the business had given out.
This showed that the couple, who have been living in California for four years, donated $250,000 (£197,000) to Joe Biden’s daughter Ashley Biden for her women’s wellness centre, in Philadelphia.
According to the latest tax return, the charity gave the money to Biden’s Women’s Wellness (Spa)ce in 2023 and was the largest grant it made to any charitable organisation all year.
The insights into the foundation, which Harry and Meghan do not receive a salary from, came out this week just before a a new documentary aired in Germany about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The show, named ‘Harry – The Lost Prince’, aired on Germany’s ZDF network on Tuesday and looked at the life of the royal couple in more detail.
Throughout the documentary, which primarily focused on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s life since quitting the Royal Family in 2020, the couple received some damning criticism.
Among the critics featured in the documentary was a neighbour in Montecito, who claimed Meghan was not involved in the community and was not an “asset”.
Prince Harry received equal criticism to his wife in the programme, with a former veteran accusing the duke of “whinging” when he spoke out about personal family matters.
The Archewell Foundation was also a matter of discussion in the documentary, with director and German journalist Dr Ulrike Grunewald slamming the way the business is managed.
Dr Grunewalk said: “What surprised me most was how ineffectively Harry and Meghan’s foundation is organised.
“The amount of donations has fallen drastically in one year: from $13million in 2021 to $2million in 2022. According to their own documents, Harry and Meghan only work one hour a week for the Archewell Foundation.”
