Prince Edward rides on horseback at Trooping the Colour for the first time – Royal Central

The Duke of Edinburgh has taken part in The King’s Birthday Parade on horseback for the first time.

In his role as Colonel of the London Guards, the Prince took part in the procession alongside King Charles, the Prince of Wales and the Princess Royal who were also mounted.

The London Guards is the army reserve battalion of the Guards Division. It was formed in May 2022, with Prince Edward becoming Colonel.

Prince Edward has been photographed in recent weeks riding alongside his brother, Prince Andrew, in Great Windsor Park as the 59-year-old continued to gain confidence in the saddle.

The Duke of York will play no role in the ceremony, having been exiled from public life following on from his friendship with a convicted sex offender.

Saturday’s events marked the first Trooping the Colour of The King’s reign following on from the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022.
