POLL: Should Trooping the Colour be a bank holiday? | Royal | News

Royal fans will be excited today as one of the biggest annual events of the royal calendar gets underway. In London, Trooping the Colour will be held to mark King Charles’ official birthday, despite the fact his actual birthday is in November.

The event, which takes place in June each year, will see senior members of the Royal Family gather together as they join the parade either on horseback or in a horse-drawn carriage. They will then gather on the famous Buckingham Palace balcony to watch a Red Arrows flypast.

Since it began in the 19th century, Trooping the Colour has never been a bank holiday, but we want to know whether you think it should be. Vote below or if you can’t see the poll click here.

The whole day of celebrations today is a large event featuring around 1,600 parading soldiers, 400 musicians and more than 200 horses.

Crowds will line The Mall to catch a glimpse of the royals and the iconic balcony moment, which is set to take place at around 1pm this afternoon.

King Charles and Queen Camilla will be at the heart of the celebrations and will be accompanied by a number of other senior royals.

This is set to include Prince William and Princess Kate, along with their three children Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are also expected to be in attendance, along with the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.

It is also believed that Princess Anne will be part of the celebrations alongside her husband Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence.

The King’s youngest son, Prince Harry, 40, who stepped down from their senior royal roles in 2020, will not be at the event today.
