The Danish Royal Family hosted their cousin King Olav V of Norway on a three-day State Visit to Denmark on this day in 1974, 50 years ago, which was the first incoming State Visit to Queen Margrethe’s Reign, a year after the Danish State Visit to Norway in 1973.
The Danish Royal Family received their cousin, King Olav V of Norway, with an Official Ceremony at the Amalienborg Palace, followed by a Luncheon with the Royal Family at the Fredensborg Palace.
In the evening, Queen Margrethe II (wearing the Danish Emerald Parure) hosted a State Banquet for King Olav at the Christiansborg Palace. Prince Henrik and Queen Ingrid (wearing the Danish Ruby Parure), along with Princess Benedikte (in her Floral Tiara) and Prince Richard of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, Hereditary Princess Caroline Mathilde (wearing Queen Alexandrine’s Russian Sapphire Tiara), and Countess Ruth of Rosenborg (in Princess Viggo’s Garnet Kokoshnik Tiara) were also in attendance.
Queen Margrethe (wearing the Pearl Poiré Tiara and Parure), Prince Henrik, and Queen Ingrid (in the Floral Aigrette Tiara) joined King Olav for a Gala Performance at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen.
King Olav also hosted a Return Banquet in honour of Queen Margrethe (wearing the Alexandrine Drop Tiaraandthe Antique Diamond Parure), Prince Henrik, and Queen Ingrid (in the Khedive of Egypt Tiara) on the Royal Yacht Norge.
