Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Prince Mette-Marit of Norway have visited the Scouts on an important charity day in their anniversary year.

Their Royal Highnesses were informed of the Norwegian Scout Association and the Norwegian Refugee Council’s collaboration on a special charity campaign while gathered around a campfire north of Oslo. The Scouts’ fundraising efforts will support the Norwegian Refugee Council’s work with young refugees in Lebanon.

Thousands of Scouts throughout Norway have participated in the campaign to educate children and youth displaced due to war, violence, and unrest.

The Crown Princess is the High Patron of the Norwegian Scout Association, and the Crown Prince is the High Patron of the Norwegian Refugee Council.

Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit met with the Secretary General of the Norwegian Scout Association and the Secretary General of the Norwegian Refugee Council, along with several young Scouts participating in this year’s campaign.

During the conversation, Scouts from the 17th Oslo Scout Group shared their efforts in connection with the campaign with the royals. The Scouts have been involved in the campaign for many years, including participating in their Scout Group’s demonstration against the Ukraine war in front of Oslo City Hall in March 2022.

For the twentieth consecutive year, the Norwegian Scouts are teaming up with the Norwegian Refugee Council to help improve the world. This initiative takes place every April and is a longstanding tradition in Norwegian scouting. The first fundraising campaign was carried out in 1956, which raised money to assist Hungarian refugees. In 2023, the majority of funds collected through the campaign will be directed towards the Norwegian Refugee Council’s educational and vocational training projects for young refugees in Lebanon.
