Meghan Markle's sister caught in major blunder over Prince Harry's title

Prince Harry was mistakenly referred to as the Prince of Wales in a court filing by Meghan Markle’s sister, Samantha, reports have claimed.

Samantha Markle is fighting for an appeal after the libel case against her sister, the Duchess of Sussex, was dismissed earlier this year.

Meghan was originally sued over comments she made to Oprah Winfrey in 2021 and on her Netflix docuseries, Harry And Meghan, in 2022, with Samanta accusing her of claiming “false and malicious lies” about her fairytale “rags-to-royalty” upbringing and contesting her claim that she “grew up as an only child”.

But a US court dismissed the defamation case back in March and she’s now fighting to appeal the ruling at the Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit.

According to Newsweek, which claimed that it’s seen court filings issued by Samantha’s lawyer, Peter Ticktin, the Duke of Sussex is named the Prince of Wales – a title currently held by his older brother, Prince William.

Prince Harry was born His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales, however, is styled the Duke of Sussex after the late Queen Elizabeth granted him the Dukedom of Sussex, the Earldom of Dumbarton in Scotland and Barony of Kilkeel in Northern Ireland, on his wedding day back in 2018.

Since then he was styled His Royal Highness The Duke of Sussex up until 2020, when he stepped down as a senior working royal and would there not not be able to use his HRH title in practice.

Meanwhile, the Prince of Wales title is traditionally given to the heir to the British throne and is currently held by Prince William.

But according to the US outlet, Samantha’s lawyers made a huge error when referring to the duke in the court filings, naming him the “Prince of Wales”.

The filing reportedly read: “Amidst the ongoing publicity of their fairytale engagement and wedding and subsequent fallout with the ‘Royals,’ Meghan started a production studio, Archewell Productions with her husband, Harry, Prince of Wales.”

Another segment read: “The 6-part Series delved into the inner lives of Meghan and her husband, Harry, Prince of Wales, discussing everything from their early lives to their wedding and eventual fallout with the Royal Family. It also was the platform which Meghan used to attack her sister, Samantha.”

A third said: “It is safe to say that prior to Meghan’s engagement to Harry, Prince of Wales, the world at large never heard of Samantha Markle.”

Newsweek claims that the error appeared in the filing nine times in total.
