Actress Mindy Kaling has sparked a major backlash after revealing some bizarre advice that she received from Meghan Markle.
Speaking about the Duchess of Sussex’s upcoming Netflix series, With Love, Meghan – which is set to air on March 4 – Mindy shared that she had learnt tips about hosting children’s parties from her former actress friend.
When asked by Time magazine whether she learnt anything from being on the show, Mindy said: “Spoiler alert: I did. The theme was throwing a party for children. I love cooking, but I’m really not good at entertaining. “
Discussing a tip she learnt from Meghan – who shares five-year-old Archie and three-year-old Lilibet with Prince Harry – Mindy added: “I don’t know anything about how you’re not supposed to use overhead lighting when people come over. You’re supposed to use little lamps.
“But Meghan just knows how to do that stuff. For kids’ parties I usually just go to the party supply store and get paper things, which I don’t judge and neither does she.
“But it was fun to learn simple ways to do a homemade kids’ party.”
Royal News Network then started a discussion about Mindy’s comment, which sparked outrage from annoyed fans.
One wrote: “Sure, that advice works, if you own a $15 million mansion! But for the average Joe, they wouldn’t do that. Gosh, this thing sounds so out of touch!! If you artfully place lamps around your home rather than using, I don’t know, the light switch to turn the lights on, please let me know.”
Another fan commented: “Totally clueless. Do they not understand how silly and ridiculous that sounds? Why can’t you use overhead lighting? I need to see what the kids are doing. Meghan Markle doesn’t have a maternal bone in her body.”
A third furious fan commented: “Gee, I just threw a few balloons, hung a sign in my house. I don’t have extra lamps to place around – where do these two come from? If this advice is for the rich and famous, they should have a group meeting in their mansions.”
As of February 20, Meghan has racked up more than two million Instagram followers.
The Duchess of Sussex, 43 – who only began posting on the account on New Year’s Day – revealed earlier this week that she is set to launch her new lifestyle brand, As Ever, alongside her Netflix series this spring.
