Royal | News - Prince Ricardo De La Cerda
Although Meghan has received some negative publicity around the upcoming show, one royal commentator believes the duchess is in fact “picking up where she left off” all them years ago before she married Prince Harry, 40.
Before their engagement in 2017, Meghan was beginning to work on her lifestyle content, as shown in her now deleted blog The Tig. The duchess gave this side of her life up when marrying the prince in a star-studded 2018 Windsor wedding.
However, now Harry and Meghan are no longer working royals – and have not been for five years – the duchess is free to return to this part of her life.
Afua Hagan, journalist and royal commentator, exclusively told Express.co.uk: “It’s Meghan picking up from where she left off. She has always been interested in this kind of lifestyle content, she had her blog The Tig before she was the Duchess of Sussex when she was working on Suits.
“It’s something she has always had a passion for. This is that blog coming to life as it were. It’s also great to see a woman of colour leading a cooking/lifestyle show in the US.”
Afua also revealed that she does not think Meghan’s career relies on the upcoming show, despite the fact the current contract between Archewell Productions and Netflix is expected to expire this year.
She said:“I think it will do great numbers, partly because of the build up which is happening already and partly because it’s Meghan.
“At the end of the day, the Archewell Productions have a contract with Netflix that is thought to be worth around $100 million. They will want to fulfill that and make as much content as they can.”
The eight-episode series will air on January 15.
