Meghan Markle ‘wanted to be a global superstar with an HRH title’ | Royal | News

Since quitting royal life in 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not had the life away from the public spotlight that they initially suggested they wanted. Over the last five years, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex – who moved to America – have appeared on TV screens time and time again, even going as far as to have a bombshell Netflix docuseries.

Although it is believed that part of the couple’s decision to leave their royal duties and the UK in 2020 was to enjoy a life not as public as the one they had under the royal spotlight, one royal commentator has pointed out that this has not been the case. Instead, Meghan seems to have inserted herself right back in the spotlight, especially with her new Netflix show “With Love, Meghan”.

One royal commentator said that this is because Meghan, 43, wanted to take her royal title and become a “superstar” after quitting royal life in 2020.

Jane Barr, writing in the From Berkshire to Buckingham newsletter, said that Meghan would not have wanted a quiet life like other non-senior royals, like Prince Harry’s cousins, have.

She wrote: “She [Meghan] would not have been happy with the ultimately quiet or truly independent/non-royal lives that William and Harry’s cousins actually live.

“Looking back to Megxit, Harry was not just the grandson of the Queen, the same relationship all his cousins had to the sovereign, he was the son of the future King.

“Meghan wanted to take her HRH and her title and be a superstar in her own sphere on the international stage.”

Since leaving the Royal Family, Prince Harry, 40, and Meghan, 43, have retained the right to keep their titles of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

The couple, who live in Montecito, still publicly refer to themselves in this way, with Meghan even telling her friend Mindy Kaling on her Netflix cooking show that she is “Meghan Sussex” rather than Meghan Markle now.

In an explanation of this, the duchess said the name is meaningful to her as she shares it with her children Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, three.

The title is not likely to be taken from them under King Charles’ reign.
