Meghan Markle allegedly declined an invitation to the Coronation after receiving an “unsatisfactory” response from King Charles when she sent him a letter.
Insiders suggest that the Duchess of Sussex was unimpressed with the Royal Family’s reaction to the shocking allegations made during her tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.
In the 2021 interview, Meghan and Harry levelled several serious accusations against the royal institution, causing a worldwide stir.
Among these was the assertion that a member of the Royal Family had expressed concerns about the colour of their baby’s skin.
Reports have since emerged suggesting that Meghan wrote to Charles, then Prince of Wales, about this issue, identifying the person who made the comment.
However, it is alleged that Meghan found Charles’s reply unsatisfactory, leading to her decision not to attend the Coronation.
Sources speaking to The Telegraph suggested that Meghan “feels she has not received a satisfactory response to her concerns” after “raising concerns about unconscious bias”.
It is reported that Meghan’s letter was written after Charles reached out, expressing his regret over the family rift.
While the Royal Family has largely refrained from commenting on these matters, Prince William did make a point of stating that theirs is “not a racist family”, reports the Mirror.
The bombshell Oprah interview, marking a year since Harry and Meghan’s royal exit amid familial strife, saw Meghan voice grievances over unaddressed bullying allegations and the toll of her royal role on her mental health.
Meghan’s absence from a key royal gathering, clashing with Archie’s fourth birthday, is thought to stem from the lukewarm royal reaction to the interview, according to The Telegraph.
Prince Harry attended the event alone before quickly returning stateside.
A representative for the Sussexes confirmed at the time they were invited to the Coronation by the palace, but while Harry flew in from California, Meghan opted out.
