Meghan Markle told latest PR decision a ‘good move’ for her winning back hearts of Brits | Royal | News

Meghan Markle has been praised for avoiding a recent trip back to the UK as a “good move” for her public image as some people are “committed to misunderstanding” her, according to a PR expert.

Prince Harry returned to the UK last week alone to attend the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games at St Paul’s Cathedral in London.

Meghan made the decision to remain in the US before flying to Nigeria where she met with her husband, as both royals are there to engage in talks for the Games, which is a multinational sporting event for sick and injured veterans, founded by Harry in 2014.

Her decision to avoid the UK was a wise decision, according to a PR expert, after recently recieving an unfavourable poll, which showed that only 35 percent of Brits have a positive opinion of the Duchess.

Abesi Manyando, a PR and crisis management expert, told Daily Express US: “From a PR perspective, Meghan’s decision not to attend the tenth anniversary of the Invictus games was a good one because the press would have shifted the importance of the games to critiquing her instead.

“We must truthfully factor in and not omit the fact that there are people who are committed to misunderstanding Meghan or not liking her solely based on her race and the fact that she is not from an aristocratic or noble British family.

“Nothing can change their perspective.”

It was recently revealed that the couple have hired a UK-based publicist, which shows that they are “trying to have a more favourable image in the UK,” Manyando said.

The PR expert also said the couple’s visit to Nigeria “is a great move”.

She said: “Harry is very committed and passionate about his philanthropic work and military families.

“He may be exploring different ways of elevating the Invictus Competition and bringing awareness to his philanthropic endeavors in Nigeria and the global community.

“Meghan revealed that she had Nigerian ancestry on her podcast last year, so this is an amazing opportunity for the couple to learn and embrace Nigerian traditions and customs.”

She added: “Although the couple has stepped down from official royal duties, their passion for philanthropy, culture, and diplomacy hasn’t disappeared. They are still the Duke and Duchess; how they continue to display that to the public formally is key and important.”
