Meghan Markle ‘lampooned’ by Hollywood as industry has a ‘field day’ | Royal | News

Meghan Markle was brutally savaged by a royal commentator who claimed that the Duchess has been “humiliated and lampooned” in Hollywood for being the “least self-aware” public figure with her various claims about herself and the Royal Family. The Duchess of Sussex has not had the best relationship with the British press, suggesting it was one of the reasons she and Prince Harry chose to move to America when they quit as working royals in 2020, however, in recent years there has been a blatant shift towards the US media’s approach.

Just this year, Harry and Meghan were the subject of a scathing cover story by Hollywood bible Vanity Fair, which dubbed them “American hustle” and published various allegations against them. Two years ago, the couple were described as the “biggest losers in Hollywood” by the Hollywood Reporter, with the outlet coming back the year after with a humiliating report on why the industry “keeps quitting” on them. Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan were mocked in South Park when the series dedicated a whole episode to them in February 2023.

The episode, titled The Worldwide Privacy Tour, was the second one of the series’ Season 26.

It centred around the fictional Prince of Canada and his wife (allegedly mocking Harry and Meghan), who travel to the small town of Colorado.

South Park’s episode followed the couple as they strive for a normal, low-key life. They attempt to do this on a global tour, audibly demanding privacy.

But the latest shift in the US’s perception of the Duchess was noted by a royal expert, who blasted her after her latest podcast interview.

Meghan spoke to SKIMS founding partner Emma Grede’s podcast and referred to “lies” being spread about her, while she said she would urge people to “tell the truth” if she could rewrite her narrative, in what’s been perceived as a swipe at the Royal Family.

But US journalist Lee Cohen dubbed the duchess the “most tone deaf, least self-aware figure in the public eye,” adding that she was “rightly humiliated” in Hollywood for it.

Mr Cohen told the Express: “[Meghan] Markle may be the most tone deaf, least self-aware figure in the public eye.

“She has been rightly humiliated and lampooned for it in Hollywood by everyone from cartoon characters to comedians.”

He added: “This is the woman who, in her 2021 Oprah interview, spun tales that crumbled under scrutiny. Even her husband backed away from her charges of racism against his family.”

The royal commentator said that it comes as no surprise that Hollywood has a “field day” at the Sussexes’ expense after their series of mistakes.

He said: “No wonder Hollywood’s had a field day at the Sussexes’ expense.

“South Park roasted them in 2023, and comics like Chris Rock have taken gleeful jabs.

“Even a Spotify exec, Bill Simmons, branded them ‘grifters’ after their podcast deal fizzled out post-Archetypes.”

In March 2023, comedian Chris Rock satirised Meghan’s racism claims, saying that she was simply dealing with “some in-law s***” while noting that she won the “light-skinned lottery”.

Meanwhile, after Spotify ended their deal with Harry and Meghan after only 12 podcast episodes, top Spotify podcast executive Bill Simmons blasted them and described the couple as “f****** grifters”, an Americanism for swindlers.

He said: “The f*****g grifters. That’s the podcast we should have launched with them.

“I’ve got to get drunk one night and tell the story of the Zoom I had with Harry to try and help him with a podcast idea. It’s one of my best stories.”

Harry and Meghan have never commented on the claims.
