Featuring a striking Bandeau Tiara composed of large faceted citrines or topazes set in gold with lops seed pearls, along with a pair of large citrine earrings and a gold chain that can be worn with three or five citrine and pearl pendants. The origin of the jewels is unwon, but they could have been forgotten heirlooms in the back of the Grand Ducal vault, with a Bracelet converted into a Tiara in the 1970s, or they could have been acquired around that time.
The Citrine and Pearl Tiara first appeared on Princess Margaretha at the State Banquet during the British State Visit to Luxembourg in 1976.
After being worn on a State Visit to Italy in 1980, Grand Duchess Joséphine Charlotte notably wore the Citrine and Pearl Tiara and Parure for Queen Margrethe’s 60th Birthday Gala in 2000.
Hereditary Grand Duchess Maria Teresa wore the Citrine and Pearl Tiara for the Dutch State Visit to Luxembourg in 1981, when a series of iconic portraits were taken, as well as for a German State Visit in 1988.
After over a decade in the vaults, the Citrine and Pearl Tiara was worn by Princess Margaretha for the Luxembourg State Banquet at the Royal Palace of Brussels in 1999.
After being worn by Princess Alexandra to the National Day Gala in 2011, the Citrine and Pearl Tiara was also worn by Princess Alexandra for the National Day Gala in 2015.
Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie first wore the Citrine and Pearl Tiara and Parure for the Wedding of Princess Madeleine of Sweden in 2013 and also for the Belgian State Visit to Luxembourg in 2019.
Grand Duchess Maria Teresa wore the Citrine and Pearl Tiara on a State Visit to Germany in 2012 and also for a German State Visit to Luxembourg in 2014, while pieces of the parure were worn for the Portuguese State Visit to Luxembourg in 2017.
Most recently, Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie wore the Citrine and Pearl Tiara and Parure, including all five pendants on the necklace for the Luxembourg New Year’s Reception last month. There is no doubt we will continue to see this striking heirloom for years to come!
