King Willem-Alexander takes to the pitch

King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands has visited an inclusive sports club in Amsterdam. 

The Dutch King visited Only Friends sports club, an Amsterdam organisation that allows children, teens, and adults with physical and developmental disabilities a place to practice almost thirty different sports. 

Housed at the Friendship Centre, over 200 volunteers help over 2,000 people exercise in a safe and welcoming environment each week. Only Friends was founded in 2000 and the Friendship Centre was built in 2010. 

King Willem-Alexander spoke to staff and volunteers about the different programmes offered through Only Friends. 

The Dutch king was also able to speak with many participants to learn more about their experiences. 

During his tour, Willem-Alexander saw an adapted scuba diving lesson in the pool; the centre offers several modified aquatic programmes. 

Ever the good sport, His Majesty stepped up and joined a kickboxing class where he took several kicks. 

Clearly enjoying himself, he tried his best on the track in a race running competition. 

And like many other royals, King Willem-Alexander’s love of football shone through when he took to the pitch.
