King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark have arrived at the Royal Yacht, Dannebrog, for their final cruise of their first summer as King and Queen.
The Danish Royal Family has shared a video on social media showing King Frederik arriving at the Danish Royal Yacht via speedboat to tour. The King and Queen of Denmark have a busy schedule for the four day cruise.
They first will visit Rønne Harbour on Bornholm Island, followed by Ærø Island, Funen Island, and then will wrap up their tour at Vejle, a city on the Jutland Peninsula.
The Danish monarch typically carries out several shorter summer cruises to see different parts of the Kingdom. King Christian IX began the tradition in the second half of the nineteenth century, and each subsequent monarch has continued on.
The yacht is the official residence of the monarch when they are on board. It is not only used for trips around Denmark; it has also been used as the Danish residence on trips to Sweden and Norway.
The current yacht was built in 1932 during the reign of King Christian X; it replaced a paddle steamer (also called Dannebrog).
Dannebrog is also used by the Royal Danish Navy for training exercises.
