The King and Queen have attended a Coronation reception at Mansion House in the City of London to carry out a historic ceremony.  And King Charles used his speech at this special event to call for tolerance at a time of turmoil in the world.

The reception was held to recognise and celebrate the work of the City of London’s civic and administrative institutions and the Livery guilds of the city. The King specifically thanked everyone present for all of the work that London and the guilds put in for his Coronation in May.

As he entered the reception, King Charles took part in the Pearl Sword Ceremony where the Lord Mayor of London presents the monarch with the Pearl Sword and the monarch then returns it to the mayor to symbolise the mayor’s authority when the Monarch is not present.

During the reception, King Charles gave an address. In his speech, The King highlighted all of the work done: ”I would… like to express my own particular thanks for City traditions which have been maintained across the ages…the City Livery’s production of special and precious items in support of Coronations. These include the magnificent Anointing Screen and Coronation Cup, which your guests have an opportunity to see in the equally magnificent setting of Mansion House this evening. ”

His Majesty took the opportunity to discuss how communities across the United Kingdom continue to come together to support one another while society faces more and more difficult questions and situations.

He also highlighted the importance of the natural world and interfaith tolerance and work: ”One of my first acts as Sovereign, a little over a year ago, was to open the doors of Buckingham Palace to the leaders of the major Faiths represented across these islands; to welcome them, with respect and indeed love, and to re-dedicate my life to protecting the space for Faith itself within our shores. Such understanding, both at home and overseas, is never more vital than at times of international turmoil and heartbreaking loss of life.

Queen Camilla notably wore one of Queen Elizabeth II’s favourite tiaras, the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara, for the reception. It is the first time she has worn the tiara that was given to the future Queen Mary for her 1893 wedding.
