The King has made several important speeches through his visits to Australia and Samoa, including speaking to world leaders at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. However, King Charles made a serious sartorial statement on Friday at a dinner.
The King hosted a crucial event for this trip, the King’s Dinner and Reception for the Commonwealth Heads of Government. Buckingham Palace staff worked with local Samoan chefs and officials.
Despite several CHOGM members attending the dinner in black tie dress, His Majesty’s wardrobe was inspired by local art.
Paired with his black trousers, The King wore what is considered “Red Sea rig dress”, complete with a blue pattern created in the Samoan style of art.
An onlooker declared that King Charles was “owning it”. However, he reportedly told the President of Ghana, “You’re making me feel underdressed.”
Queen Camilla also coordinated with her husband, wearing a blue Anna Valentine tunic and palazzo trousers for a similarly island-inspired look.
Although the King and Queen have had a slower schedule to allow for the King to rest as he is still undergoing cancer treatments, they have carried out several notable engagements throughout this trip. The King has attended his first CHOGM as Head of the Commonwealth, a significant milestone for the monarch.
