King Charles has revealed more of his hopes for his Coronation Food Project to the Big Issue magazine. And he shares his birthday wish for ”our people and our planet”.
The King is featured on the front cover of the magazine. The portrait of Charles III has been taken by John Waddell Rankin, better known as Rankin.
His Majesty also explains why the Coronation Food Project, which aims to stop food waste and get excess food to those who need it, is so important.
King Charles tells the Big Issue that ”Food need is as real and urgent a problem as food waste – and if a way could be found to bridge the gap between them, then it would address two problems in one. It is my great hope that this Coronation Food Project will find practical ways to do just that – rescuing more surplus food, and distributing it to those who need it most.”
The magazine also showcases the Coronation Food Project emblem for the first time.
The Big Issue supports people across the UK. The magazine is sold by those looking for a legitimate income while gaining valuable social and transferable skills. Some vendors are homeless, some are at risk of losing their homes while others are looking for work or dealing with health issues.
The Coronation Food Project has been started to mark the 75th birthday of King Charles III which falls on November 14th 2023. it aims to work with farmers, supermarkets and other organisations to ensure that excess food is redistributed to communities where it is most needed. It aims to tackle food insecurity and food waste throughout the United Kingdom.
In recent years, the Prince of Wales has also worked closely with the Big Issue magazine.
