King Charles praises unity and community after riots

King Charles has said he hopes ”shared values of mutual respect and understanding” will prevail and help to bring people together after riots across England and Northern Ireland.

His Majesty spoke to Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, about the riots and the response to them.

It follows a series of violent incidents which have seen over 700 people arrested.

The trouble began following the killing of three young girls in Southport. Social media posts incorrectly identified a suspect as an immigrant and protests began to take place against immigration. They became violent.

A 17 year old man, born in Wales, has been charged with three counts of murder following the Southport attacks.

Newly-elected Prime Minister Sir Keir Starker has spoken of the need to restore order and bring back peace and normalcy to shattered communities, and King Charles has been kept updated throughout the whole ordeal.

Buckingham Palace released a statement saying that His Majesty was up to date on current events and that he had spoken with the Prime Minister, as well as the Chairman on the National Police Chiefs’ Council and the Chief Constable of Essex Police, to express “his heartfelt thanks to the police and emergency services for all the are doing to restore peace in those areas that have been affected by violent disorder”.

The statement added that the King has “shared how he has been greatly encouraged by the many examples of community spirit that has countered the aggression and criminality from a few with the compassion and resilience of the many”.

The spokesperson concluded the statement by saying: “It remains His Majesty’s hope that shared values of mutual respect and understanding will continue to strengthen and unite the nation”.

This statement is in line with the traditional role of the Monarch at times like these: pointing out elements of unity and the positive impact of community actions.

It is also understood that King Charles is in talks with local authorities to determine the most appropriate time to make a visit to the areas most impacted by the violence, once his presence will not constitute a further strain element on local law enforcement.

From this, we can expect that His Majesty, and with him possibly other members of the Royal Family, will be seen in the most impacted areas, as the situation calms down.
