The King has returned to one of the most important events on the royal calendar after being forced to miss it last year.
King Charles attended the Commonwealth Day Service of Celebration at Westminster Abbey, resuming an important annual tradition.
While the Monarch historically attends the Commonwealth Day Service, His Majesty was not able to be there last year following his cancer diagnosis in January 2024. As the Head of the Commonwealth, his reappearance was welcomed.
The theme of Commonwealth Day 2025 is Together We Thrive, “celebrating the enduring spirit of the Commonwealth family and importance of fostering strong and connected communities”.
The King shared his Commonwealth Day message where he praised the Commonwealth nations for their contributions and support during the Second World War, in addition to emphasising the importance of peace and unity for both the population and the planet.
King Charles and Queen Camilla were joined at Westminster Abbey by the Prince and Princess of Wales; the Princess of Wales also made her return after missing the 2024 service through ill health. The Princess Royal and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester were also at the Abbey.
