King Charles leads commiserations as England lose to Spain in the final of the Euros

Football didn’t come home in the end but The King made sure to let England’s players know there’s a warm welcome awaiting them as they head back after losing the final of the Euros to Spain.

King Charles sent a message of commiseration to Gareth Southgate and his team within minutes of the final whistle blowing in Berlin.

The King said ”Although victory may have eluded you this evening, nevertheless my wife and I join all my family in urging you and your support team to hold your heads high.”

”All those who have participated in sporting activities at any level will know how utterly despairing such a result can feel when the prize was so near – and will join me in sending heartfelt sympathy, even as we congratulate Spain.”

His Majesty continued ”But please know that your success in reaching the European Championship final is a really great achievement in itself and one that brings with it the pride of a nation which will continue to root for the Three Lions today – and in the many triumphs which I have no doubt lie ahead.”

The letter, addressed to Mr. Gareth Southgate OBE, was signed Charles R.

The Prince of Wales, who had travelled to Berlin for the final with Prince George, also sent commiserations. Prince William took to social media to say ”this time it juts wasn’t meant to be. We’re all still so proud of you. Onwards @England. W.”

Prince William was part of the presentation party at the end of the match, hugging many of the England players as they walked on to receive their runners-up medals.

The Prince also congratulated the Spanish players as well as King Felipe VI who had watched the game with his younger daughter, Infanta Sofia, and who had the honour of presenting the Euros trophy to his country’s team.
